USA Rugby President

October 30, 2009

I did a shoot today with the President of USA Rugby.  The offices for USA Rugby are located here in Boulder.  The photos were for a local magazine.  This was my first editorial shoot where I basically had two seconds to get the photo.  Nigel was super nice but super busy.  When I got there (about 10 mins. early), he immediately let me know that had was expecting an important phone call and that I had about 10 mins.

Of course I still had to pick a location and set up.  I went with one SB-800 on a stand with an umbrella and one SB-600 which was very kindly held by Nigel’s assistant.  Thank you Ashley.  I settled on two locations.  One was a wall with framed jerseys and the other a wall of awards.

When Nigel walked in he was already looking at his watch.  I set him in the first location and snapped off three or four images.  Then did the same in the other scene.  He seemed a little relieved that I wasn’t going to take up anymore of his time.  All in all I think the photos turned out pretty good.

This is the first post from the Portrait Day we held a week ago. I really wanted to check out the slideshow creator from Zenfolio. Looks pretty cool. Let me know what you think.

Street View Goes Off-Road

October 19, 2009

The very cool Google street view is now off road too.  Check out this video of the new Street View Trike.

Shalon and Nate were married at the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield in Denver.  It was a super fun day.  I was just there to photograph the ceremony and do portraits.  A much shorter day for me than usual which was nice.  I think the portraits turned out really great.

I’m loving photoshop these days.  For the past few months I’ve been playing around with Lightroom and with some actions I purchased to make things easier.  I have to say I prefer to just do it myself.  I honestly didn’t like Lightroom.  So far I’ve only used to make slideshows where it was enjoyable.  I think I’ll just stick to good old Photoshop.

Boulder Photo Walk

October 2, 2009

I’ve been thinking about doing this since I saw this blog post.  We’re planning to meet up at Amante Coffee in Downtown Boulder at 6:30-7am.  I know it’s crazy early but that will give us the best light and Pearl street should be pretty clear of people.  Shoot me an email if your interested in hanging out.

Kristen and John were married at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Denver. The church was absolutely beautiful. We had a really fun day. John and Kristen couldn’t have been better. Their reception was at the Westin Tabor Center. Rockin’ night. By far one the best wedding bands I’ve ever heard. Can’t remember their name so if anyone reading this was there please post their name and link if you have it.

On the tech side, I’m now only using my Nikon speedlights for off camera lighting. Their super portable and generally work great. I do run into problems occasionally using them outdoors. I think a set of Pocket Wizards are in order to fix those problems.
