We did these photos a while back and I’ve just been too busy to post them here. This was a portfolio session for Rebecca who is looking to do some modeling. I think they turned out pretty good. This ended up being a fun location. It was my first time there but I’m sure I’ll be going back.
Rebecca Model Portfolio
February 5, 2010John Keatley of Redux Pictures
January 11, 2010It’s been a while since my last post. The holidays were full of a bit too much time in the car and way too much time being sick and caring for a sick baby. Nothing is worse than your sweet baby girl being sick. I hate it.
Anyway. I thought I’d get back into the blog rhythm with an easy one. I came across this video on the blog for Redux Pictures. John Keatley is a Seattle photographer who does great work. He’s one of those photographers who’s work is so great that I seriously consider just flat out copying him. Now I would never do that. I’m much more likely to just never photograph again that copy someone.
Moving on. This video is about John, his style and how he approaches work. It’s a good one.
Colorado Portrait Photographer goes to Texas
December 17, 2009We try to get back to Texas every year at Thanksgiving. It’s super fun and one of the few times of the year that it’s not super hot in Texas. It’s also great to see family. Since moving to Boulder, Colorado 4 years ago we haven’t gotten to see my family much. This year we decided to do a few casual family portraits. The term ‘herding cats’ never applied more.
The life of a Commercial Photographer
December 17, 2009I wish I could say that this video was completely from left field. Unfortunately this is pretty much everyday (or at least it feels like everyday). I think the robot voices really make the absurdity stand out.
The really sad thing is that there are photographers out there that take these kinds of assignments. Just say no! I know you think, “It’s work. I’m not doing anything else. It will be good experience.” You’re not only hurting yourself but the profession as a whole. What really sucks is in a year or two that client will come back when you do have “experience”. When you know not to accept that job. But now there’s now way they’re paying more. Think about this. What if you had taken the time to educate the client in the first place and turned down that crappy job. When the job turned out horrible and they had to reshoot now they know what you’re worth. Don’t sell yourself short. Be like robot Johnny.
I found this little nugget at a new blog I’m follow by a photography marketing guru. Great blog. Worth a follow.
Health and Beauty
December 8, 2009These images are from my latest shoot with Yellow Scene Magazine. It was great to do some work in studio. It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve gotten to do that. I used my new Elinchrom D-Lite 4 through a softbox as the main light and an Alien Bees B400 to light up the background. We bounced a little light off a reflector to illuminate the shadows a bit.
I really enjoy getting to be in the studio and doing some editorial work.
Emy in the snow.
December 4, 2009I just love this photo of our little girl. She loves being outside in the cold. Cute.
Colorado Santa
November 17, 2009Just imagine if Santa lived in Colorado instead of the North Pole. Don’t you think he’d wear a Go-Lite jacket? I did these photos for an upcoming issue of Yellow Scene magazine. It was freezing outside and I (unlike Santa) wasn’t wearing a jacket.
This was a two light setup. One SB800 as the main though an umbrella and a SB600 as a backlight.

Photo Day with Ray
November 16, 2009A couple of weeks ago we did a “photo day” at Chautauqua Park here in Boulder. We did one maternity, a couple of couples and several families. The day was a blast. I pretty much spent the entire Saturday at the park. Below are a few of my favorites from the day.

My ladies.
November 3, 2009A couple of weeks back we had a Portrait Day and I had the opportunity to snap a few photos of my girls. Aren’t they beautiful?

The Death of Twitter?
November 2, 2009Could Miley Cyrus kill twitter. I sure hope not. Found this here.
